About eManifest The Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) eManifest initiative is changing the way commercial goods coming into Canada are processed. When fully implemented, eManifest will be a virtually paperless process that starts before shipments reach the border.

The collection and risk assessment of advance commercial information, sent electronically to the CBSA, will allow low-risk shipments to be identified prior to arrival and processed in a more efficient manner upon arrival in Canada.

About the eManifest Portal The eManifest Portal is an Internet-based transmission method designed primarily for small- to medium-sized businesses to ease the transition from paper reporting to pre-arrival electronic data transmission. It can also be used by Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) clients to view, change, amend, cancel and/or verify the status of their EDI transmissions.

The eManifest Portal is now available for highway carriers to transmit advance cargo and conveyance data. Future versions of the eManifest Portal will be available for freight forwarders and importers to transmit advance information.

Why you should use the eManifest Portal The eManifest Portal, which is accessible from the CBSA Web site, provides clients with an alternative data transmission method to the EDI options. Using the eManifest Portal, you can:

securely transmit trade data to the CBSA; confirm receipt of information whether transmitted through the Portal or by EDI; verify the status of trade data; receive system messages from the CBSA updating users on important information related to their cross-border activities; and access online help and reference material. The CBSA will expand features of the eManifest Portal in future versions to include notification of secondary trade chain partners and the ability to generate reports and perform queries.

Client support The CBSA closely monitors eManifest compliance issues and is working with early adopters of eManifest to identify and resolve issues and correct problems before requirements become mandatory.

Support for users of the eManifest Portal is available through online help and reference material on the eManifest Portal pages of the CBSA Web site, including Frequently Asked Questions, a Quick Reference Guide, a Glossary of Common Terms, and more.

Learn more and stay informed! Visit the CBSA Web site regularly and subscribe to the eManifest RSS news feed to receive updates when they happen.
