Made In Canada Products

The Competition Bureau has produced new guidelines in regards to Made in Canada/Product of Canada claims for non food items. A copy of the new guide can be found here.

Clear Your Goods Faster!

By indicating A & A Contract Customs Brokers Ltd as your customs broker along with our 1-800 number on the invoice and bill of lading, you are advising your carrier to contact A & A to arrange the clearance. The carrier must contact the customs broker with the following information: carrier name, date, time, and port of crossing.

Therefore, by including your customs broker on your paperwork, the carrier knows exactly who to contact which saves him time and you money!


Softwood Lumber Export Charge Reduced Further

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has posted the Export Charge Rate for June 2010 on their website. Due to the rise in the prevailing monthly price of Framing Lumber Composite (FLC) as produced by the Random Lengths Publications Inc., the export charge rate for both Option A and B has been reduced to 0%. Please note that exporters must continue to apply for their Softwood Lumber Export Permits and self access with CRA with a NIL return.

Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)

British Columbia and Ontario Importers

As of July 1, 2010, Ontario will implement the HST which combines the 5% GST and 8%PST. British Columbia is following Ontario’s lead and will also implement the HST effective July 1, 2010. Frozen Pork from the European Union

As of July 5, 2010 at noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), the 2010 – 2011 tariff rate quota (TRQ) for frozen pork from the European Union (EU) will be accessible.

Any applications submitted prior to 12:00hrs (noon) EDT July 5, 2010 will be rejected. Applications are permitted for shipments that will enter Canada on or after August 1, 2010.

Companies are reminded that each shipment of frozen pork is to be imported with one unique permit which has one unique Canada Border Services Agency transaction number.

Carrier Codes E-manifest

Effective April 1, 2010, the Canada Border Services Agency will no longer accept generic itinerant codes “77YY” for any mode of transportation. A transition period commencing May 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011 will allow carriers and drivers currently using the “77YY” code to obtain a carrier code.

Although the presence of counterfeit health product in our regular supply chain is infrequent in Canada, Health Canada has provided a policy on Counterfeit Health Products to look at focusing on potential vulnerabilities. More information can be found at here.

 

Report Illegal Import/Export Activity

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has established an on-line procedure by which concerned individuals can report illegal import and export activity. By completing and submitting the form on the following page, you can help CBP prevent international trade violations.

If you have knowledge of a violation of United States trade law, please click the "Report Trade Violations" button after reading the Privacy Policy. You will be asked to fill out a short form explaining the infraction. Once you have submitted the form, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the address you provided if you gave one.

You may also report trade violations by calling 1-800-BE-ALERT.

The Report Trade Violations button is to be used only to report illegal trade activity, such as quota circumvention or misclassification of imports, intellectual property rights infringement, and health and safety issues.
