CBP Updates Hours of Service at Ports of Entry to Coordinate with CBSA
Trade Update • Nov. 20, 2024
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in partnership with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), will modify operating hours at 38 ports of entry (POEs) along the U.S.-Canada border starting at midnight on January 6, 2025.
These changes bolster border security while promoting legitimate cross-border trade and travel. By reallocating personnel to busier POEs, CBP can more effectively utilize its resources to support its national and border security objectives.
The adjustments include formalizing operating hours already in place for over four years at 13 POEs, expanding hours at eight locations, and slightly reducing hours at a few. Travelers impacted by these changes will have alternative crossing points within a reasonable driving distance.
This initiative has been closely coordinated with CBSA to harmonize operational hours and strengthen the security frameworks of both nations.
CBP regularly reviews operations, traffic volumes, and resource allocation to optimize services for the traveling public. The agency remains committed to engaging with local and regional stakeholders and communities to ensure open communication and address any concerns.
Border Crossing Wait Times Overview
Most of the 118 northern border POEs will maintain their current schedules, with many operating 24/7. You can find POE locations and real-time border wait times here.
